After recently releasing the single “Heartless” merely two days ago, which quickly moved to #1 on the charts in several countries worldwide, The Weeknd has returned with yet another single this week titled “Blinding Lights”. The song was recently teased in a Mercedez-Benz commercial at the beginning of the week, and the 80’s vibes on this song are in full effect. Fans compare the song to tracks played on the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, also saying this is a song they could see blaring down the highway at night when all the city lights are present. The artist and company uniquely collaborated in release for Mercedes’ new electric car EQC, which can be seen below.
“Blinding Lights” has several references to the popular city of Las Vegas, from the photoshoots, Instagram captions, as well as a lyrical reference with “sin city” heard throughout the chorus. Abel Tesafaye is no stranger to Vegas, take note of the popular Trilogy song “Heaven or Las Vegas”. There’s no doubt from the catchy lyrics to the upbeat tune of the song that this is not only another chart-topper, but also the beginning of a new era for The Weeknd, with only more to come as we dive into the future of Chapter 6.
