Jake Scott brings his Lavender tour to a sold out Salt Lake City (Show Review)

By Molly McCoy

Jake Scott brought his Lavender Tour to The Union Event Center in Salt Lake City on Friday November 14th. With a sold out crowd and a line stretching all around the block, fans were more than excited for what was to come. To start the night off, pop sensation Brynn Cartelli won the hearts of the crowd with a beautiful voice that surpassed her young age of nineteen. While this was my first time seeing her, many people in the crowd sang along with her from the very beginning knowing the words to her songs. With just her and her guitar on stage, she captured the attention of the crowd easily from the beginning, at one point in her set I heard a fan shout “I came to see you!” Needless to say, many fans were so excited to hear her perform. She promised the crowd that she would come back to Salt Lake very soon and fans are excited for that promise to be kept.

Following Brynn, the second opener on the bill was ROSIE. She brought a great energy to the stage and told the fans that her goal over the course of her set was to help them know that “their feelings are valid and so are they”. That got quite a loud cheer from the crowd and she continued to play her fun set. She did a great job of connecting with the crowd throughout her set and even had a few songs where she would include the crowd in the chorus. Overall ROSIE’s set was so much fun and a great start to the show.

As soon as the house music went on the crowd instantly started cheering for Jake. The lights finally went down and the band came out, as they played intro music Jake Scott ran onto stage with so much energy ready to play a great set. He mentioned that this is the biggest show he’s played thus far on his tour and he was so grateful and excited to be here. He played a new song called, “Lavender” which will be on the new album he is planning on releasing next year. He told the backstory on how this new album is meant to capture the magic of nostalgia. Based on the one song he played, fans have a lot to be excited for with this new album.

Throughout the show Jake built up the energy before trading in the band for an acoustic guitar. He told the crowd how at heart he will always see himself as a singer-songwriter and it’s still how he writes his songs today. He said this is his favorite part of every show where he can play these more intimate songs with all of his best friends. One of my favorite songs that he played was called “Working For You” a song he and a friend wrote after talking about relapsing from an addiction, the lyrics in that song were deep and powerful. One of my favorite things about Jake Scott’s show was how in depth he went into when talking about his songs, whether it was why he wrote them or what they were about, he did a great job at giving meaning.

Jake Scott is full of showmanship and energy, these two combined made for great crowd involvement throughout the show. He even came out into the crowd a few times which really raised the excitement level. Between his skilled songwriting ability, great voice and personability I think that Jake Scotts popularity will grow quickly and Salt Lake can expect more sold out shows when he comes to town.
