It’s been awhile – 9 years, to be exact – but Staind are apparently working on a new record. At least according to vocalist/guitarist Aaron Lewis, who recently guested on Godsmack vocalist Sully Erna’s podcast. The band have toured and played shows sporadically since that album release, with a run on Uproar Festival happening soon after the self-titled album, but have been mostly inactive due to other projects.
“I’m working on new Staind s***,” Lewis said from his home while on the podcast with Erna.
Often miscast as a nu-metal band, Staind experienced multi-platinum success mostly on the backs of their 1999 and 2001 albums Dysfunction and Break The Cycle, respectively. While it’s true the band did have things in common with the burgeoning nu-metal movement at the time, Staind’s music always leaned toward the more introspective side of post-grunge – especially the lurching riffs of “Home” and “Open Your Eyes”. Staind’s most recent album, the self-titled one that dropped in 2011, was actually an impressive piece of work – the mythical “heavy” album that fans were waiting for.
