ECW “One Night Stand” 2006 (Wrestling Review)

One Night Stand

New York City, New York

June 11th, 2006

Singles Match
Tazz vs. Jerry Lawler

A squash to give Tazz a quick pop.

.5 / 5

Singles Match
Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton

A solid match with just so much time just spent doing nothing really. Once it picked up it was a more technical based match. Nothing bad but not the match for this PPV.

3 / 5

Tag Team Match
Super Crazy & Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. The FBI (Little Guido & Tony Mamaluke) (w/Big Guido)

Another match with some slow spots but once it picked up it worked. Tajira and Super Crazy were super over with the crowd and the shocking ending surprised me. FBI were on the ECW Sci Fi show so it makes sense that they won. Some really good tag moves here though.

2.5 / 5

World Heavyweight Title Match
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Sabu

A fun spot filled match. No contest ending here made sense to protect both guys in WWE. That ending spot too was just brutal looking and no way they walked away without hurting from it.

2.5 / 5

Six Man Tag Team Match
Edge, Lita & Mick Foley vs. Beulah, Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer

A really fun hardcore match that even under WWEs branding was still more than they’d usually do. All 4 guys had some great spots and bled with Funk bleeding like a pig to pull his fake eye injury. The final spots with Foley were nuts and this is one to remember for sure.

4 / 5

Singles Match
Balls Mahoney vs. Masato Tanaka

A less than stellar match. Tanaka put on a match for the history books the previous year against Mike Awesome but Balls was signed to WWE at this point so he had to go over. A quick brawl that wasn’t fun.

1 / 5

WWE Heavyweight Title Match
John Cena (c) vs. Rob Van Dam

Heel Cena playing off the ECW crowd that hated him was gold. This was a great title match and title change that people will remember. It had close falls, good spots, a run in, and a win that blew the roof apart. Both RVD and Cena put on a match that will be remembered for their entire career.
