WWE Payback 2023 (Wrestling Review)

Pittsburg, Pennsylvania

Sept. 2nd, 2023

Steel Cage Match
Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch

A good end to this long overdrawn feud. Felt like a big match here and both women looked great. The interference was entirely unneeded as Lynch just stood around in ring waiting for Stark when the escape was right there.

3.75 / 5

Singles Match (Special Referee: John Cena)
The Miz vs. LA Knight

A bit too long but gives Knight a credible win here against someone who was a world champ.

2.75 / 5

WWE United States Title Match
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Austin Theory

This was a fine match. Felt like a tv match and nothing special. Mysterio for his age can still go with anyone though.

3 / 5

WWE RAW Tag Team Title / WWE SmackDown Tag Team Title Steel City Street Fight
Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (c) vs. The Judgment Day (Damian Priest & Finn Balor)

This felt longer than 20 minutes honestly. The fake blood for Owens was awful but he redeemed with by nearly missing a balcony dive through a table. This was all sorts of insanity and made sense as this being the reason Sami and Owens lost the belts in such an action heavy match.

3.5 / 5

WWE Women’s World Title Match
Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Raquel Rodriguez

Another match that was way too long. Raquel has the size to match Rhea but her winning wasn’t realistic here at all as this dragged on.

2.75 / 5

WWE World Heavyweight Title Match
Seth Rollins (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Tonights theme was matches that went too long. This dragged on and for no reason at all, almost like they were killing time. It was a fine match but no one expected Seth to lose to Nakamura here.
