Rumors have been flying around the Internet the last few days that vocalist David Escamilla of Crown The Empire has left the band, likely on acrimonious terms. Our friends over at Hands Up Media have the scoop, which you can also find below.
The first Facebook post, which was almost immediately deleted off Facebook, is rather telling.
David’s recent Instagram post is also cryptic, but hinting that there’s at least turmoil within the band.
The following comments were also taken from David’s Instagram account.
Excerpt #1: “@alex_j4256 Agreed. It’s not a shame! I’m not proud of ‘Retrograde’ at all. The whole thing was a mess.”
Excerpt #2: “@fullheartedrunaway My work doesn’t always define who I am. Especially when it’s manipulated by outside sources. That’s the reason I’m not proud of it. It’s because it wasn’t true to me and was mostly written by people not in the band. If you respect as an artist, I’d hope you’d be curious as to what I really want out of music and am capable to create.”
Excerpt #3
“@alex_j4256 A lot of character changing over the years. A few of us are into metal and the rest of the band listened to all kinds of music. Rise has nothing to do with sound changes at least from my experience. In my opinion, it was simply experimenting at a more commercial level. Which may or may not always work in an artist’s favour. But that’s not for me to judge! I just know how it made me feel.”
Editor’s opinion: While David and the band haven’t explicitly come out and said they’ve parted ways, clearly something is up. And it’s not likely a publicity stunt, considering they just released Retrograde last year. It’s not an album that David particularly enjoys, so there’s obviously disillusionment there. It would be a shame if this were to happen, as while Retrograde wasn’t quite as well received as their previous 2 full-length albums, the band played to some of the biggest crowds of their career this fall.
We’ll keep you updated on further updates concerning the band. Here’s to hoping they can work things out.
