WCW – Fall Brawl 1999 (Wrestling Review)

WCW

Fall Brawl

Salem, North Carolina

Sept. 12th, 1999

Six Man Tag Team Match
The Deadpool (Shaggy 2 Dope, Vampiro & Violent J) vs. The Filthy Animals (Eddie Guerrero, Kidman & Rey Mysterio Jr.)

Not a terrible match but drastically needed some tightening up. At almost 15 minutes it just went on too long. ICP looked good though with some decent moves and solid offense. It helps as well they were facing 3 legends though.

2 / 5

WCW World Cruiserweight Title Match
Lenny (c) (w/Lodi) vs. Kaz Hayashi

Another match that went too long. The crowd wasn’t into this at all and they made some stuff here look super amateurish.

1 / 5

No Disqualification Tag Team Match
The First Family (Brian Knobbs & Hugh Morrus) (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. The Revolution (Dean Malenko & Shane Douglas)

A no DQ match that never used the stipulation. No weapons, nothing crazy, and they even made tags throughout. It started off good but got boring with a quick and uneventful finish.

1.5 / 5

WCW World Television Title Match
Rick Steiner (c) vs. Perry Saturn

A decent match that just had some good hits but just never hi its stride. Steiner wasn’t super over as a singles guy in this and Perry is always good but didn’t have much going for him either.

2 / 5

Singles Match
Berlyn (w/The Wall) vs. Jim Duggan

7 minutes felt like an eternity here. Wrights new gimmick here is horrendous and not over and Duggan is fine but he’s older even in 1999 and not the most physical guy. The crowd didn’t care and it became almost sloppy at points.

.5 / 5

WCW World Tag Team Title Match
The West Texas Rednecks (Barry Windham & Kendall Windham) (w/Curt Hennig) (c) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray)

Another boring match that dragged. Harlem Heat and even Curt Henning really tried their best here to drag any sort of life into this but it didn’t work. I will say the finish was clever at least.

1 / 5

WCW United States Heavyweight Title Match
Chris Benoit (c) vs. Sid Vicious

Two vastly different sizes but I thought this one worked well. Sid got his big man moves in and Benoit looked like an aggressive fast mover here.

2.5 / 5

Singles Match
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Goldberg

This was okay. Goldberg stayed down more than he had for any match before here and Page got to show himself off some. The run ins though at the end mixed with Goldberg just not being a great guy to do anything other than a quick match against hurt this.

1.5 / 5

WCW World Heavyweight Title Match
Hulk Hogan (c) vs. Sting

Sting really tried to save this match but Hogan seemed incapable of it. Hogans boots to everyone doing a run in looked horrendous and Hogans offense most of the match was punches only. The Sting turn though was fun.
