Sueños Festival 2022 ends its first day with the help of Ozuna, Farruko, & more (Show Review English & Spanish)

Chicago has a new festival and with its first year it has already made a name for itself. Now the largest Latin music fest in the country, day 1 of Sueños Festival hit with a heavy stack of artists, a large crowd, and good vibes all around.

For a new fest of course there were so issues but they seemed to pale in comparison to the good times being had. Some food vendors and drink lines had almost unreasonably long wait times as well as some issues I overhead with people not happy about the design of the upper tier ticket packages, was all but forgiven once the music started. Being a festival with only one stage as well made things a bit interesting as well.

DJ Fredy Fresco had the tough job of DJ’ing throughout the day for several hours but knocked it out of the park. Between interacting with the crowd, helping people stay hydrated and energized between acts, and pumping out dance and sing along classics he made sure the crowd never fully stopped partying.

Blessd had the hard spot of being the first non DJ spot to kick the show off and he brought the crowd in and got them moving. The Columbian who has made a name for himself working with artists like Myke Towers and Maluma made some new fans in Chicago for sure with his set. Bringing the heat though was Tokischa though. The first pyro of the day and the first act to make the crowd go wild, the Dominican rapper showed some extra skin that had the cheers going louder than the music even. Still relatively new to the industry Tokischa commanded the stage like a veteran of the scene and left fans wanting more.

Veteran act Jowell & Randy had some issues leading their set early in the day to be delayed and ultimately turned into a solo set with Joel Muñoz pulling a quick one to save the day. Even as a one man act he had the crowd going. The crowd was happy that to have him there even if Randy wasn’t around and he brought the fire, dance, and sing alongs with him. While the set was short and sweet, it left fans wanting more so hopefully next year the duo can return for a full set.

Myke Towers and Natanael Cano both brought the crowd in and had quite the reaction. Towers who has quickly made a name for himself since his start in 2019 showed why he isn’t an act to miss and why he’ll soon be on headliner level. Cano, while personally not a fan of his set, the Mexican rapper showed how also as a newer act just how big his fanbase has grown in a short time.

Possibly the stand out act of the day was Farruko. While not the energetic set that others may have had, the joy he seemed to have in front of the now packed crowd made up for it. Though his set was shorter than expected he brought the hits and the smiles. The crowd sang their hearts out to songs like “Pepas” and “Pa’ Romper la Discoteca” which really helped set the mood for not only the rest of the evening but the festival as a whole.

El Alfa made sure though to show Sueños though that his time is now. The Dominican rapper dominated the stage and commanded the crowd through a set full of hits that had everyone moving. Rocking a Cubs hat he was clearly happy to be back in Chicago and on stage.

His set featuring hits like “La Mamá de la Mamá?” which was played several times throughout the night to cheers each time. A full dance in the crowd broke out as well during “Gogo Dance” which has made its way as a viral hit on TikTok. He also teased the crowd throughout about leaving and having to cut his set to boos from the crowd before continuing on.

As the night closed out though it was time for none other than Ozuna. The most diverse of artists on the stage that day it fit perfectly for him to end the night. Bridging the gap of genres at times thanks to his backing band and including things like electric guitars into songs making it closer to rock, Ozuna had the crowd at his will.

Be it throwback songs like “Dile Que Tu Me Quieres” or some of his hits like “Tú Foto,” “Se Preparó” or “El Farsante” the crowd was treated to roughly an hour of Ozuna that breezed by. “Te Boté” saw fireworks explode over the main stage bringing the festivities to a close for Night 1 and gave fans a magical view that showed just how special not only Ozunas set was, but the festival as a whole.

Chicago tiene un nuevo festival y en su primer año ya se ha hecho un nombre. Ahora el mayor festival de música latina en el país, el día 1 del Festival Sueños llegó con un montón de artistas, una gran multitud, y buenas vibraciones por todas partes.

Para ser un festival nuevo, por supuesto que hubo problemas, pero parecieron palidecer en comparación con los buenos momentos que se vivieron. Algunos vendedores de comida y las colas para las bebidas tenían tiempos de espera casi irrazonables, así como algunos problemas que he oído de gente que no estaba contenta con el diseño de los paquetes de entradas de la grada superior, pero que fueron perdonados una vez que empezó la música. El hecho de ser un festival con un solo escenario también hizo que las cosas fueran un poco interesantes.

El DJ Fredy Fresco tuvo la difícil tarea de pinchar durante varias horas, pero lo hizo de maravilla. Entre la interacción con el público, ayudando a la gente a mantenerse hidratada y con energía entre los actos, y el bombeo de baile y cantar a lo largo de clásicos que se aseguró de que la multitud nunca dejó de fiesta.

Blessd tuvo la difícil tarea de ser el primer punto no DJ en dar inicio al espectáculo y atrajo a la multitud y la hizo moverse. El colombiano, que se ha hecho un nombre trabajando con artistas como Myke Towers y Maluma, hizo nuevos fans en Chicago con su set. Sin embargo, Tokischa fue el que llevó la voz cantante. La primera pirotecnia del día y el primer acto que hizo que el público se volviera loco, el rapero dominicano mostró algo de piel extra que hizo que los vítores fueran más fuertes que la música. Tokischa, que todavía es relativamente nuevo en la industria, dominó el escenario como un veterano de la escena y dejó a los fans con ganas de más.

Los veteranos Jowell & Randy tuvieron algunos problemas que retrasaron su actuación al principio del día y finalmente se convirtieron en una actuación en solitario en la que Joel Muñoz se encargó de salvar el día. Incluso como un acto de un solo hombre que tenía la multitud va. El público se alegró de tenerlo allí aunque Randy no estuviera y trajo el fuego, el baile y el canto con él. Aunque el set fue corto y dulce, dejó a los fans con ganas de más, así que esperemos que el próximo año el dúo pueda volver para un set completo.

Myke Towers y Natanael Cano hicieron vibrar al público y tuvieron una gran reacción. Towers, que se ha hecho rápidamente un nombre desde su comienzo en 2019, demostró por qué no es un acto para perder y por qué pronto estará en el nivel de cabeza de cartel. Posiblemente el acto más destacado del día fue Farruko. Aunque no tuvo la energía de otros, la alegría que parecía tener frente a la multitud que estaba llena lo compensó. Aunque su actuación fue más corta de lo esperado, trajo los éxitos y las sonrisas. El público cantó a pleno pulmón canciones como “Pepas” y “Pa’ Romper la Discoteca”, lo que ayudó a crear el ambiente necesario no sólo para el resto de la noche, sino para todo el festival.

Sin embargo, El Alfa se aseguró de demostrar a Sueños que su momento es ahora. El rapero dominicano dominó el escenario y comandó al público a través de un set lleno de éxitos que hizo que todo el mundo se moviera. Con una gorra de los Cubs, estaba claramente feliz de estar de vuelta en Chicago y en el escenario.

Su actuación incluyó éxitos como “La Mamá de la Mamá”, que fue interpretada varias veces a lo largo de la noche y que fue ovacionada. El público bailó a tope durante “Gogo Dance”, que se ha convertido en un éxito viral en TikTok. Salvando las distancias entre los géneros gracias a su banda de acompañamiento e incluyendo cosas como guitarras eléctricas en las canciones que lo acercan al rock, Ozuna tuvo al público a su antojo.

Ya sea con canciones de época como “Dile Que Tu Me Quieres” o con algunos de sus éxitos como “Tú Foto”, “Se Preparó” o “El Farsante”, el público disfrutó de una hora de Ozuna que pasó volando. Con “Te Boté”, los fuegos artificiales estallaron sobre el escenario principal, poniendo fin a la primera noche y ofreciendo a los fans una vista mágica que demostró lo especial que fue no sólo la actuación de Ozuna, sino el festival en su conjunto.
