Softcult display a shoegaze-heavy sound on new single, “Someone2Me”

Having only existed for a couple years now, Canada’s Softcult have been on a roll with every single they’ve released. Not afraid to get confrontational with the problems that affect the world (corporate greed, climate change) and more personal subjects (a woman’s right to choose what’s best for her own body), the band wisely opts for the DIY route. Considering twins Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn were both also known for Courage, My Love, it’s not a surprise that some of those more overtly pop influences have crossed over – as well as continually improving songwriting.

The band’s new single, “Someone2Me”, definitely qualifies. The subject matter this time around is incels – AKA men who are “involuntarily celibate” and feel entitled to women that they’ll never have. Despite the harrowing (and very real) subject matter at hand, it’s tempered by some of Softcult’s most shoegaze-heavy music to date.
