The Big Bash League (BBL) is an Australian Twenty20 cricket league professional club that was developed by Cricket Australia and had its inaugural season in 2011. The eight teams that compete in the league are the Perth Scorchers, the Melbourne Stars, the Adelaide Strikers, the Hobart Hurricanes, Brisbane Heat, the Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Thunder, and the Sydney Sixers. The most successful team in the Big Bash League are the Perth Scorchers (the current reigning champions), who have won on four separate occasions. The second most successful team at the time of writing are the Melbourne Rangers, who have won the BBL three times
The biggest-ever attendance at a BBL game was when the Melbourne Stars played the Melbourne Renegades at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on January 2nd, 2016. A total of 80,833 people turned up
One of the most unlucky teams in the BBL are the Melbourne Stars, who have managed to make it to the final no less than three times, but on each occasion, they have come up short and failed to win the match
The prize money awarded to the BBL winner each year is generally AU$450,000. The runner-up team gets AU$260,000. Each losing semi-finalist gets AU$80,000 and the team that finishes in fifth position at the end of the season gets AU$20,000
A total of six teams have each won the BBL title at least once, including the Sydney Sixers, the Melbourne Renegades, the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Thunder, Brisbane Heat, and the Perth Scorchers
To date, the tournament’s most successful wicket-taker is Ben Laughlin. In the 95 matches that he’s played, he has taken a cool 111 wickets. Just behind him in second place with 106 wickets is Sean Abbot after 80 games played. You then have Kane Richardson with 98 wickets in 79 games, Andrew Tye with 93 wickets in 69 games, and then Adam Zampa with 88 wickets in 75 games.
Another similar stat: the tournament’s most successful run-scorer with the highest number of runs is Chris Lynn. He has managed to get 2,790 runs in 88 innings. Aaron Finch is the second-highest run-scorer with 2,431 runs in 76 innings. You then have Glenn Maxwell with 2,205 runs in 82 innings, Shaun Marsh with 2,196 runs in 61 innings, and Marcus Stoinis with 2,137 runs in 71 innings
The youngest ever player to compete in the Big Bash League was Noor Ahmad (a right-handed Afghan cricketer who is still only 17 years of age). He made his first appearance in the BBL against the Hobart Hurricanes at the tender age of just 15 and 350 days!

The player with the highest individual score in Big Bash League history is Marcus Stoinis, who once scored 147 runs (not out) off 79 balls against the Sydney Sixers. The second-highest run-scorer in BBL history is Matthew Wade, who once scored 130 runs off 61 balls against the Adelaide Strikers, and the third-highest-ever scorer was set by D’Arcy Short. While playing against Brisbane Heat, he scored 122 runs off 69 balls
The highest-ever team total in the BBL occurred in a Sydney Derby between the Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder. Sydney Thunder ended up scoring a whopping 232/5
The player with the most number of sixes in BBL history is Chris Lynn, with a cool 172 sixes from 2011 to 2021. In that same period, Glenn Maxwell managed 97 sixes, and from 2012 to 2021, Ben Cutting managed 88 sixes
