Coheed and Cambria are one of those core bands that will always hold a very special place in my heart. I’ve loved them since I was in high school in the early 2000’s. Yup, elder emo checking in here. You can imagine my excitement when I heard that they would be coming to The Sylvee in Madison, WI. I missed them the last time they were here, but that was not going to happen a second time.

I was bursting with anticipation when the night arrived, and I can confidently say that I wasn’t the only one there feeling that way. When Coheed finally came out, they wasted no time in getting the crowd pumped up with the classic “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3”. For the next hour and forty minutes that energy didn’t let up. Covering nearly the entirety of their discography, it felt like a night of greatest hits. There wasn’t a single song that left me wishing for something else. From early songs like “Everything Evil” and “Devil in Jersey City” that brought me right back to my high school days, to new songs like “The Liars Club” and “Rise, Naianasha (Cut the Cord)” that rock just as hard as the songs that made them legends nearly 20 years ago.

Coheed sounded perfect, the crowd singing along to nearly every word sounded perfect, and getting to once again see one of my favorite bands made for a perfect night. It’s only been a few days since that amazing night and I’m already ready for them to come back. If you’re a fan, or even if you aren’t that familiar with Coheed and Cambria, you’ll be doing yourself a huge favor by going to see them live. They are absolutely flawless.
