Nickelback’s massive hit “How You Remind Me” has been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA

Love them or hate them, there’s no doubt that Nickelback’s success help drove home the point that post-grunge was one of the most commercially viable forms of rock music around. I mean, they’ve sold millions of albums worldwide, undoubtedly helping them get into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame in 2023, and even have more defenders than you’d think now. While the criticisms of the band obviously remain, the fact is that they are quite successful and well-known, and weren’t just some flash in the pan success either – their newer material continues to do pretty well.

Still, though, it’s their 2000s-era material that remains their most successful. Specifically their 2001 album Silver Side Up, which was released the same day of the 9/11 attacks. For a few weeks near the end of 2001, their single “How You Remind Me” was the hottest song in the USA, and needless to say it spurred the album’s success.

If you can believe it, the song has earned another accolade – reaching the RIAA 4x Platinum mark. It’s almost inarguably the band’s most well-known song, though songs like “Photograph” and “Someday” have a case as well.
