Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda is always busy. Whether it’s producing tracks for up and coming artists or remixing tracks for the likes of Foxing and Deftones, it’s a wonder Shinoda ever sleeps. Another thing that almost assuredly takes up a lot of time is the constant questions he gets asked about Linkin Park – namely, if the band will ever release new music or play live again. Inquiring minds want to know, of course, but he’s probably sick of it by now. After all, the band hasn’t released new music since 2017’s One More Light, and haven’t performed a live show since the 2017 Hollywood Bowl show where they celebrated the life of vocalist Chester Bennington.
As you can likely surmise by the title of this article, Shinoda’s recent Twitch livestream revealed that the band has no current plans for live shows or new music at this time. As Loudwire noted:
“The only Linkin Park news that I have for you is that… Yeah, we talk every few weeks…” he says. “There’s no tours, there’s no music, there’s no albums in the pipeline. Let me just tell you that. Just keep in your minds that that is not happening. I’m just gonna say that much for now.”
He went on to explain, “Anytime the band says anything or does anything, everyone tries to start up the hype train. And we’re like ‘No, no, no, no. Don’t start the hype train. You’re going to disappoint yourself.'”
It should be noted that the members of Linkin Park do get together quite often, of course, with Joseph Hahn and Mike Shinoda spotted together in particular. I mean, wouldn’t you do the same after spending over two decades touring, recording, and basically spending every waking moment together? Either way, whatever the band decides to do in the future is just fine. Whether there’s working with a new vocalist of any sort or no new music at all, the band’s legacy is intact.
