It’s not uncommon for a band to experience their greatest success on their debut album. Mayday Parade is quite an obvious example of that, of course. In 2007, the Tallahassee pop-punk/emo/alt-rock band debuted with A Lesson In Romantics, immediately cementing a place in the music scene. Even today, it’s not hard to figure out why it was such a success. The effective vocal hooks all over songs like “Black Cat” and “Jamie All Over” still draw envious eyes from songwriters, while the ballad “Miserable At Best” is something that’s extremely hard to not sing along to. One wonders what might have happened had Jason Lancaster not departed Mayday Parade before the album’s release, but the fact is that they’ve still assembled a solid discography for themselves. Still, the debut album remains their most critically praised work.
Speaking of which, “Jamie All Over” might well be the band’s signature track. In fact, the song has now become the band’s first Platinum single, being certified by the RIAA for sales of over one million in the USA. It also joins their song “Miserable At Best” and their album A Lesson In Romantics, which were both certified Gold previously. Well played, no surprise here.
