Legendary drummer Neil Peart of Rush, who also doubled as the band’s primary lyricist and was renowned as one of the best drummers of all time in any genre, has sadly passed away at the age of 67 from brain cancer. The band took to social media earlier today to make the sad announcement.

Peart, who joined the band in 1974, immediately became one of rock’s most revered and iconic drummers. Influenced by his peers as much as jazz drumming, Peart became the youngest ever drummer inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall Of Fame in 1983. While it’s awfully hard to not rehash what an impact Peart had on many modern drummers, one need only listen to truly epic albums like 2112 (one of the first major concept records in rock music) and Hemispheres to get a sense of just how skilled Peart was.
Legendary.
