Leave it to Florida to have the most ridiculous laws on just about anything. While the state might be the home of some of the best music ever made (Limp Bizkit, Anberlin, Trivium, Florida death metal, New Found Glory, and the list goes on), a new Florida law will allow law enforcement personnel to issue tickets for “loud music”.
The new law targets drivers who are listening to music from a vehicle that can be “plainly audible” from a distance of 25 feet away. For the math wizards here, that’s 8 yards – less than it takes Patrick Mahomes to move the chains. As Click Orlando also notes, “the law also allows officers to ticket drivers listening to music “louder than necessary” in areas where churches, schools or hospitals nearby.”.
For those interested, the statute can be read in full here. The law goes into effect July 1st. This is conjecture, of course, but knowing Florida, they’ll probably look to target anyone who’s listening to anything deemed “counterculture” – AKA the rockers and the hip-hoppers.
