AEW Dynamite – Episode 201 (08.09.2023) (Wrestling Review)

AEW

Dynamite

Columbus, Ohio

Aug. 9th, 2023

Tag Team Match
The Hardys (Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy) (w/Ethan Page & Isiah Kassidy) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (w/Brandon Cutler)

Labeled as a dream match but Hardys aren’t in any shape to have a great match anymore sadly. This could have been worse but instead it was just fine.

FTW Title FTW Rules Match
Jack Perry (c) vs. Rob Van Dam

RVD can still go for his age just fine. This got Perry his heel heat and tied into the ECW / FTW belt theme going on. It was your typical hardcore match and had all the spots you’d expected in a RVD match.

3.5 / 5

Tag Team Match
The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) (w/Alex Abrahantes) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli & Jon Moxley) (w/Wheeler Yuta)

Two teams just beating each other at 100% speed. This was fun and what you’d expect. A lot of big spots and moments from both teams who are great.

4 / 5

AEW Women’s World Title Match
Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Anna Jay (w/Angelo Parker & Matt Menard)

The stipulation here is so dumb with a tournament to grant spots in a 4 way match at All In for the womens belt but the womens champ still has to qualify for it. This match though was just fine. Anna Jay is fine in ring but never has gotten that big moment really to shine as a singles wrester so you didn’t expect her to beat the champ.
