AEW Dynamite – Episode 178 (03.01.2023) (Wrestling Review)

AEW

Dynamite

San Francisco, California

March 1st, 2023

AEW All-Atlantic Title Match
Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Big Bill (w/Stokely Hathaway)

Once this match got going it was really good. Big Bill isn’t booked great in AEW so I didn’t expect him to win this. He did get some moves in and come off looking like a big monster though. Orange getting the comeback worked well for him and he did it in some crafty ways.

Face Of The Revolution Ladder Match
Eddie Kingston vs. AR Fox vs. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ortiz vs. Konosuke Takeshita vs. Sammy Guevara vs. Komander vs. Action Andretti

Komander came off here looking like a lucha star hitting those spots. Should be noted that AR Fox came off looking great too hitting some of the moves with him. Takeshita should have won personally as he’s the main guy here that just screams star power. Hobbs winning is fine but just odd given he just came back from half a year or not even being on tv. It was a fun match though with nonstop action. Had stories going like the JAS / Action and Eddie / Ortiz.

Singles Match
Chris Jericho vs. Peter Avalon

A 3 minute match where Avalon got all the offense until the final move where Jericho ended it. It is what it is.

FTW Title Match
Hook (c) vs. Matt Hardy (w/Ethan Page, Isiah Kassidy & Stokely Hathaway)

Another quick match here. Hardy got a lot of offense and made it seem like he might win before Hook for the Redrum in for the win.

Singles Match
Riho vs. Toni Storm (w/Saraya)

Riho winning here was odd. Storm is still a bigger name here and Riho isn’t used like she was in AEWs first year. The finish here was awful too.

2 / 5

Casino Tag Team Battle Royal
Danhausen & Orange Cassidy vs. Top Flight (Dante Martin & Darius Martin) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) (w/Maria Kanellis-Bennett) vs. The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) (w/Alex Abrahantes) vs. Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) vs. The Butcher And The Blade (The Blade & The Butcher) vs. The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & John Silver) vs. The Jericho Appreciation Society (Angelo Parker & Matt Menard) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) vs. La Faccion Ingobernable (Preston Vance & Rush) (w/Jose The Assistant)

It was an AEW Tag Battle Royal. Some spots were fun and it had its moments but its just not insanely exciting. Orange and Danhausen winning was a bit of a shock though.
