Alice In Chains’ legendary album ‘Dirt’ has been certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA

When Dirt was released in September of 1992, Alice In Chains had become stars. Compared to their debut album Facelift, grunge and alternative metal had become dominant mainstream forces, at least as far as rock and metal were concerned. Fresh off tours with the likes of Slayer and Megadeth, the band’s profile was raised to the point where they were a huge deal.

To say Dirt was a harrowing album is putting it mildly. Buoyed by huge singles like “Would?”, “Angry Chair”, and the iconic “Rooster”, the record became a quick success – selling over four million copies in the USA alone. With Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell’s iconic harmonies and menacing guitar riffs, it still resounds today as one of grunge’s finest hours.

Now, the band has reached another prominent milestone for the record. Dirt is just one of many Alice In Chains singles and albums that have earned new RIAA certifications. In fact, the band has earned a plethora of new certifications, including 5 million copies of Dirt now being sold, as well as their 1995 self-titled album reaching double Platinum status. Their EP Jar Of Flies has also now sold over 4 million copies in the USA alone, which is pretty amazing.
