Releases You Might Have Missed From Yesterday: CHON, Earl Sweatshirt, Modest Mouse, and More

Yesterday was a big day for music. There were a ton of new releases spread out across all genres. So much happened that it was easy to miss out on news from certain bands or artists. Luckily, we’ve created a list of what happened yesterday, from new songs, tours, album releases, and album streams.

New Singles

1. Dayseeker:

Who cares about a Nick Jonas cover? Finally, a new song! Dayseeker released “Origin” off their upcoming album yesterday, and it left me very impressed. The vocals are powerful and strong, and it is a great first single. Origin will be released on April 21st, 2015.

2. Death Grips:

The third single from Death Grips’ new album was released unexpectedly early yesterday. “The Powers That B” is yet another consistently good track from this Experimental hip-hop group who always seem to entertain with not only their instrumentals but their aggressive nature as a whole. Jenny Death, the long-awaited second part of the double album, The Powers That B, comes out March 31st.

3. Earl Sweatshirt:

Earl lets his tortured thoughts out on his new track “Grief”, and trust me, it’s scary. The tormented and depressed lyrics settle over a dark, swirling beat, only accompanied by a haunting video to further prove his point. I love hearing Earl’s evolution as a rapper, and I’m excited to see what he brings to table on this album. I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside comes out March 23rd.

4. Sworn In:

After a strong debut release, I’ve been waiting to see what the Illionis-based metalcore act had to offer on their second album. Whether you like them or not, “Oliolioxinfree” displays their heavier side, and it is definitely the heaviest out of the three singles they’ve released thus far. This track sparked my interest in the album, especially in how great the production sounds. The Lovers/The Devil is due out April 7th.

New Albums / Album Streams

1. CHON:

CHON has always impressed me with their talent and musicianship, and their first two EP’s are direct evidence. Now, they’ve decided to stream their debut album Grow in full a week before the release date. After the interesting signing to Sumerian Records, CHON have showcased their progression as a band without losing their unique sound and song structures. My favorite tracks were “Perfect Pillow”, “Story”, and “Splash”. Grow will be officially released on March 23rd.

2. Modest Mouse:

There were a lot of album releases yesterday, such as AWOLNATION, Sleeping With Sirens, and The Bad Chapter. However, Modest Mouse’s Latest effort might be the biggest. After 8 long years, Strangers To Ourselves came out with mixed reviews. To me, there were definite hits, like “Lampshades On Fire” and “The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box” , as well as definite misses like “Pistol (A. Cunanan, Miami, FL. 1996)” and “Shit In Your Cut”. What do you think? Listen below and decide.

Other News

1. Between The Buried And Me:

Between The Buried And Me announced the “Coma Ecliptic Tour”, named after their new album that will be released on July 7th. The tour will also feature Animals As Leaders and The Contortionist. With this, they also stated that new music as well as pre-orders of the new album will be available on April 3rd. This summer tour is the best line-up I’ve seen so far, and I’m definitely anxious for new material from Between The Buried And Me.
