Deftones debuts ‘Koi No Yokan’ gem “Gauze” for the first time ever – watch

While the band is gearing up to release a new record in the very near future, alt-metal legends Deftones have had a fairly quiet 2019 – minus the shows and festivals they’ve played, of course. Having just played Pasadena Daydream Festival a few days ago with the likes of The Cure and Pixies (among others in a stacked lineup), devoted fans know the band for often including deeper cuts in their setlists, spanning their entire discography. Fans of their more recent work, especially 2012’s Koi No Yokan, will certainly be pleased at what transpired over the weekend.

Situated between album highlights “Tempest” and the nearly 7-minute long “Rosemary”, it’s somewhat easy to forget about the more immediate “Gauze”. One of the better tracks off Koi No Yokan, the song has never received a proper live debut – at least until now. Yes, Deftones finally took to the stage to perform “Gauze” live, and it went even better than you might think. While Deftones puts the finishing on their 8th full-length album, we can take comfort in knowing they’ll never fail to surprise us.
