For Those Like Us is a Metal/Rock band out of Tampa, FL. Recently the band landed number 8 in our unsigned poll. So, I hit up Cody Paige (Drums) and talked to him about how the band formed and what is in store in the future for the band. This is a band that has a very dynamic taste and sound and can intrigue many different listeners ears.

The Interview:

Please introduce yourself and what you do in For Those Like Us?

I’m Cody and I play drums in For Those Like Us.

How did For Those Like Us get started?

The band was formed by myself and our guitarist Brandon in June 2012. We have been friends since high school and my old band had broken up so I didn’t have anything going on. One day we got together and jammed and the rest is history.

If you could sign with any label who would it be and why?

That’s a good question, as a band we have so many different styles to our music that I think we could fit on several different labels. Personally I think Roadrunner and Atlantic both have awesome bands on their roster.

What does the rest of 2013 hold in store for FTLU?

We will be releasing our E.P this summer which will include five songs. We are really looking forward to that and just continuing to play anywhere and everywhere we can for everyone to enjoy our music.

Musically who inspires you to make music and why (Go in-depth)?

We have so many different influences its crazy! As a band we are inspired by a lot of 80’s metal, modern metal core, all the way up to thrash and heavier stuff. Some bands that inspire us are Killswitch Engage, Escape The Fate, The Black Dahlia Murder, Motley Crue and Skid Row. Basically we try to be as versatile as possible being that our influence is so broad.

People have been saying the FL “scene” is dead, what is your take on this?

I think nowadays you have a lot of bands that are just replicas of each other. I don’t see a lot of bands that really stand out and make an impact on people. We live in the death metal capital of the world, so we are used to a lot of heavier music where we’re from. We kind of want to revive the scene so to speak and bring back the good times and party style of the 80’s, but in a modern metal style that everyone can get into.

If you could tour with any three bands, who would they be and why?

Motley Crue for sure, Killswitch Engage, pretty much any rock or metal band.

What message would you like to convey to the listener through FTLU’s music?

As a band, we are five very different people but we still manage to make music we all like and get along well. I think that is kind of our message. The world is full of different and diverse people, so no matter where you come from, you can probably relate to us. We want to make music that can have an impact on people along with a message that grabs you and pulls you in, in a sense we are a family and we’re on this life journey together.

What would be your favorite FL venue to play and your least from favorite and why?

Our favorite venue would probably be State Theatre in St. Pete, because we always do well there and have a great crowd. As far as our least favorite venue, I don’t think we have one yet.

In closing is there anything you would like to add for the readers?

We want to thank anyone and everyone who has ever been to a show or supported us in any way. We love our fans and they are absolutely amazing, without that kind of support and people showing their love for us, we couldn’t do this. Our E.P will be out this summer, so make sure to come to a show and pick up a copy. We also love meeting new fans, so don’t be shy and come say hi!
