In one of the most bizarre moments in award show history, Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock live onstage during the 2022 Oscars. Rock was presenting the Oscar for best documentary, and made a joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, being in the movie “G.I. Jane” because of her shaved head. Will responded by storming onto the stage and slapping Rock on live TV.

Many in the audience seemed to be unsure at first if Will’s reaction was staged or a joke. Then Will returned to his seat and yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” As it became clear that this was not a staged bit, the mood became increasingly uncomfortable in the audience. However, that didn’t stop the social media audience at home from having some fun – especially when Will went on to win the Oscar for Best Actor, only moments after the incident.
If you're Chris Rock you're thinking one thing: can I make a joke so good he punches me a second time
