While God Sleeps bring a new punch to old-school metalcore with new song, “Blood Soaked Apology”

Everything old is new again, especially when it comes to the crowded metalcore genre. A new breed of bands influenced by the late ’90’s/early 2000s era of the genre have cropped up lately, from Portland’s Dying Wish to Sanction and Vatican, just to name a few prominent ones.

You might as well throw Minnesota’s While God Sleeps in the mix, too. While the new(ish) band only made their debut back in 2018 with a promising six-song EP, the band’s new song, “Blood Soaked Apology”, is quite easily their most impressive track to date. Sporting better production values than their previous material, the song is almost certainly bound to remind you of when metalcore wasn’t such a crowded genre. Melodic and aggressive nods to Killswitch Engage certainly abound, but this isn’t a band that’s mimicking the genre – if anything, they’re emboldening it. Just wait until prominent record labels get a hold of While God Sleeps.
