What is going on with Suicide Silence?

I’m not really sure, at least maybe since Metallica’s St. Anger album, that a metal band has received as much critical backlash as Suicide Silence has for the first two songs off their self-titled record due out later this month. I mean, if you go through their Youtube and social media comment sections, it’s almost universally despised – both first single “Doris”, and new single “Silence”.

The problems with both of these singles are basically this – one, the band is going for a sound that, while admirable in the attempt, completely falls flat on its face. Both singles are attempting to show influences of bands like Korn, Slipknot, and especially Deftones…except for the fact that it just doesn’t work. The singing is off key. And the production is just…not good.

With 3 weeks until the album drops, fans can maybe hold out hope that the rest of the album is passable. But, more likely, the album might be one of the worst of the year. It’s a far cry from what they were doing before – even 2014’s You Can’t Stop Me, the band’s first album with Eddie Hermida, was at least listenable. But this is something else entirely. You know you’re in trouble when the new Nickelback song is well received, much more than Suicide Silence, actually.

Is “Silence” really that bad, though? Find out below, and sound off in the comment section.
