On “Darkbloom”, We Came As Romans and Brand Of Sacrifice prove that collaboration > competition

An unexpected team-up between We Came as Romans and Brand of Sacrifice has led to a new version of the song “Darkbloom”. The song was originally released as a single by We Came As Romans in 2021. Releasing through SharpTone Records, the rendition simultaneously retains the emotional impact and fortitude that is present in the original single, while confidently adding yet another layer of intensity not yet seen in We Came as Romans material. Together, the two influential bands, alongside producer Drew Fulk (Motionless In White, Fit For A King, Crown The Empire), were determined to not only push the limits of both bands, but create the heaviest rendition possible. In the lasting trend of bands creating softer versions of their song, WCAR and BOS opted to create a heavier version of their source material. The rendition itself is wonderfully done, while keeping the emotional atmosphere and amplifying the song itself up to 100 with the styling of Brand of Sacrifice backing We Came As Romans.

On their high energy collaboration, We Came As Romans state:

In a scene where bands are often solely competing against each other instead of fostering interesting collaborations, it’s neat to see bands from different worlds creating something new and interesting.

“We’ve been fans of Brand of Sacrifice for a minute – and when we had the idea to do a reimagined version of Darkbloom, they were the first people to come to mind. A lot of bands have done incredible re-releases or reimagined versions of songs, and those versions are usually stripped down and showcase a softer side. We wanted to do the exact opposite – to team up with some powerhouses in the deathcore scene, and release something heavy, fast paced and aggressive. It’s been a blast working with the BOS guys, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”

Elaborating further, Brand of Sacrifice add:

“When WCAR approached us to rewrite this track with them, we were excited to be able to work with a band that has done so much for metalcore as a whole. This reimagined version of Darkbloom is full of aggression and energy, and combines all of the elements that make both of our bands special with some unexpected surprises along the way. I’m super stoked that we have the opportunity to innovate and bridge the gap between two very different sub genres, and do something insane that really hasn’t been done all that often in metal.”
