Back in 2013, I went to a pretty tremendous show. Coheed and Cambria headlined the event, which is always a good time. New Politics and Kongos played as well, the former of which was solid. But there’s a couple newer bands that (at the time) stuck out to me – a little band from the UK by the name of The Virginmarys. At the time, the band (who opened the event that day) struck me as a little…odd, perhaps? Not in the bad way, though – more in the “I like this band but I’m not sure who they remind me of” fashion. That being said, something about the band stuck with me, and over time, I really grew to like the band a lot. Fast forward to 2016, and the band has a new album out (in the form of Divides, which was released earlier this month), as well as an adventurous new music video for the song “Motherless Land”.
Falling somewhere between gritty punk rock and the easier hard rock influences of grunge, The Virginmarys’ new music video for “Motherless Land” is a short but effective cinematic experience. Check it out below, and if you’re digging it (you should!), check out the new album as well. It’s a solid piece of work – gritty, powerful, and rock solid.
