Talk about an explosive event. Veteran Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O’Brien, who joined the death metal band 2 decades ago for their Gallery Of Suicide album, has been arrested after his Northdale home caught fire with explosive, live ammunition inside. The fire started Monday night.
As of 0855 EST, according to ABC Action News, Patrick O’Brien “reportedly forced himself into a home on Windflower Circle in the Northdale neighborhood at approximately 6:57 p.m. on Monday. There were two people in the house at the time. One of the victims told O’Brien to get out of the house immediately, at which point O’Brien pushed the other victim to the ground and ran into the backyard of the home. Deputies responded and O’Brien reportedly did not obey their commands and ran toward a deputy with a knife in his right hand. The deputy took O’Brien down by using an electronic control device on him and arrested him at the scene.”
According to news station CBS17, Hillsborough County firefighters were able to get the fire under control after about an hour but struggled due to the ammunition inside exploding due to the flames. Crews remained at the scene throughout the night and kept the road blocked off after the fire was put out.
The man who lives in the home, identified by deputies as Pat O’Brien, was arrested near the scene of the fire on unrelated charges.
A sheriff’s office supervisor says O’Brien is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. There is no word what those charges are related to but they do not have anything to do with the fire, authorities say.
The veteran death metal band announced yesterday that they’d be supporting thrash metal legends Slayer on their final tour next year, the tour dates of which you can find below. No word on whether this event will affect the band’s tour plans.
