Train brings the sounds of San Francisco to Michigan for an evening of rock

Tonight’s show featured an interesting lineup. Yacht Rock Revue kicked off the night, embodying the fun and nostalgia of the ‘70s and ‘80s that we all enjoy. REO Speedwagon, well-known for classic rock, provided a contrasting and engaging performance alongside Train, a band more associated with 2000s radio hits.

Yacht Rock Revue started with minimal lights, letting their psychedelic attire and props speak for themselves. Their set covered a range of funk and easy rock hits, which I unexpectedly enjoyed.

REO Speedwagon took the stage with the ambiance of a radio DJ introduction, transporting us back in time. They played familiar hits, with “Take It On The Run” being a fan favorite.

When Train performed, it felt like they brought a piece of San Francisco to us. Having grown up in the early 2000’s. Frontman Pat Monahan showed off his fun-loving spirit by taking selfies with cell phones being thrown onto the stage before tossing them back, and then declaring his love for Pine Knob, filling fans with pride for their beloved Pine Knob. Later in the set, REO’s Cronin joined Monahan in a duet of Steve Miller’s “The Joker.”

Overall, the concert showcased a blend of nostalgia and contemporary music, bridging gaps and delivering a solid summer concert, here in Michigan.
