TNF Premiere: Demon In Me reveals haunting cover of “Hallelujah”

Currently on a headlining tour with support from Dwellings, Youth Fountain, and more, California’s self-described “sad noise” band Demon In Me are surely a band to keep an eye on. While the young band is fairly new to the music scene, a recent run of singles has seen them enter the public eye at a rapid rate, including new single “Choke”, which is just shy of an impressive 200,000 streams on Spotify. Very impressive stuff, and if you got to know the band on their 2016 Standby Records debut, Here’s Your Way Out, you’ll likely be impressed by their musical growth.

Of course, choosing a song to cover isn’t an easy task, generally speaking. Sure, the band could have rolled with a popular song like “Despacito” (which would actually be awesome), or something else that’s all over the radio, but instead, they went with a cover of the late Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”.

The band had this to say about choosing the cover:

“Hallelujah” was a really easy song to choose. We’ve always loved this song. There’s been so many incredible renditions and I think we just wanted to try something different stylistically. -Julian

We’ve also never released a cover before, but never really wanted to because most bands just cover that flashy new radio single while its popular.. which is cool, but we didn’t want anything we release to feel temporary. We knew that if we ever released a cover, we wanted it to be a song that was timeless; and this was at the top of the list for us. -Kylle

You can check out the cover below, as well as the band’s remaining tour dates strewn about through the USA.
