This Day In Music History: September 18th, 2001 – Ill Niño debuts with ‘Revolution Revolucion’

September 18th, 2001 was the fifth consecutive week that saw some of nu-metal’s biggest albums being released. Revolution Revolucion is the debut album from Ill Nino, and even in a crowded pack of nu-metal bands, the album immediately stood out for two things in particular. Cristian Machado’s versatile vocals (delivered in English and Spanish!!!) and traditional Latin rhythms, like flamenco guitars and extra percussion.

Led by singles “What Comes Around” and “I Am Loco”, This album also isn’t one that lives and dies by its singles, and though the record does start to run out of ideas on occasion, it’s a pretty consistent listen the entire way through. Most of all, though, it’s a fun album that balances the melodic and the heavy sections quite well. It’s not hard to see why this debut album was a success.
