This Day In Music History: March 26th, 2002 – Taking Back Sunday emerges with debut album ‘Tell All Your Friends’

The early part of the new millennium saw many, many changes when it came to music. The year 2000 was the arguable peak of nu-metal, with Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory flew off the shelves as the year closed, while Deftones did the unexpected and shifted their sound around on White Pony. Post-grunge bands like Creed and Nickelback were exploding, and notably, the burgeoning scenes of post-hardcore and emo were starting to be snapped up by astute record labels everywhere.

Few of these, of course, were more notable than Taking Back Sunday’s 2002 explosion. Arriving on the scene with their debut album Tell All Your Friends, it cemented the band’s obvious and addictive emo and post-hardcore tinged sound, and also became one of the most successful releases ever on Victory Records. Led by singles “You’re So Last Summer” and “Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team)”, the album eventually went Platinum fairly recently – and set the stage for other bands like My Chemical Romance, The Uaed, and Story Of The Year to write breakthroughs of their own.
