This Day In Music History: June 26th, 2012 – Linkin Park releases ‘Living Things’

Linkin Park’s Living Things gets overlooked for many reasons. For one, it’s a pretty standard mid-tempo electronic rock album, and two, the album is sandwiched between their concept album A Thousand Suns and the “return to roots” of The Hunting Party.

It’s easy to forget, though, that the album still has its share of hits and highlights. In particular, the electronic underpinnings of “Burn It Down” and “Lost In The Echo” soar with huge choruses, while “In My Remains” is one of LP’s best songs, period. The electronic rock sound of the band at this point, went on to influence bands like Starset – who went on to huge success a couple years after this album was released.

One of our favorite fun facts about Living Things, though, is for the numbers fiends out there. Both Living Things and Hybrid Theory clock in at 12 songs, 37 minutes – with Living Things being almost a minute longer. Interesting.
