This Day In Music History: June 12th, 2007 – Paramore releases breakthrough sophomore album, ‘Riot!’

How many pop-punk and power pop bands can successfully claim that they reference a song from revered hardcore punk band Refused, and then write hooks as catchy as the ones on “crushcrushcrush”, on the same album? Ask Paramore, who need little introduction at this point. Upon the release of their sophomore album Riot! in 2007, though, the bright new band was still searching for their true identity as an outfit – and with songs as hook-laden as “That’s What You Get”, it wasn’t terribly surprising that it was their breakout record. Released on June 12th, 2007, the album still maintains strong relevance in the alternative scene, while also containing some of the best material of Paramore’s career. Oh, and it sold in huge numbers all across the world, making Paramore global superstars, launching a massive success story for the burgeoning Fueled By Ramen label as well.

As the kids say, it bangs.
