Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of one of the most influential cartoons in history in Spongebob Squarepants, has passed away after a battle with ALS. He was 57 years old.
It goes without saying that our lives would be forever altered without Hillenburg. Formerly a writer for Rocko’s Modern Life, another influential cult Nickelodeon series in its own right, he went on to create Spongebob Squarepants in the late 90’s. After a successful pilot, the show went on to shatter numerous records, and spawned a pop culture phenomenon that continues today through movies, memes, and even SpongexCore.
What a legend. We’ll miss you.
