After an impossibly big (and busy) 2023 where they hopped off a major Falling In Reverse tour, released a new EP, and scored a Grammy nomination for their hit song “Jaded”, it’s certainly been an eventful year for Spiritbox. The genre-blurring band continues to defy expectations, and while it’s unclear as to where they can possible go stylistically at this point, the fact is that they’ve amassed an impressive fanbase for themselves. And there’s even more good news for fans of the band (and fuel for some of their critics) coming soon.
Anyway, the good news is that Spiritbox will indeed release a new full-length album in 2024, revealing such in a new conversation with Revolver recently. In the interview, Courtney LaPlante had this to say about what the band’s next full-length may sound like, and a likely 2024 release date for it…
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2024?
I’m looking forward to making new music. That’s the thing that has been missing for most of this year. ‘Cause we have our new EP, but we made it at the beginning of the year. So it feels time to incubate something new.A NEW FULL-LENGTH ALBUM?
Yeah. We gotta do it. We’ve been… not holding off, but it’s been really nice to have the instant gratification of putting out music when we’re actually done with it versus creating it and then sitting on it and doing a traditional cycle. But honestly, we want to prove it to ourselves that we can do another album and it’s gonna go well. I thought that having some sort of success in the first one would make me feel like I’ve proved it to myself.
But in fact it’s just made us even more driven and on-edge. Like, we don’t feel comfortable at all. We’re like, “We gotta prove ourselves again.”
And it’s weird because it’s not to [critics] or our fans, but surprisingly, it’s still an internal thing. Doing it once isn’t enough, we’ve gotta do it two times.
Again, where Spiritbox will go from here isn’t quite clear. Despite a recent collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, it’s not like the band has gone fully pop, or in any singular direction in general. And if they keep on the path they’re currently tracking, their future may be even brighter than they’re giving themselves credit for.
