Two of Slipknot’s most integral members may have passed away, but that doesn’t mean their spirits aren’t still with the band’s fans – and Slipknot themselves. Currently, the band are on their Knotfest tour, which brings together both Slipknot and some of heavy music’s biggest bands. Just last weekend, the band played the eponymous festival in their home state of Iowa, and it was filled with even more of music’s most exciting bands.
The band definitely didn’t forget to pay tribute to two of their founding members in Paul Gray and drummer Joey Jordison, and it made even more of an impact being in Iowa. Slipknot closed out their Knotfest Iowa set with “Surfacing”, one of the angriest songs off their 1999 self-titled debut album, where they honored both Gray and Jordison in fan-filmed footage you can view below. Only fitting that it happened in their home state, where so many labels and people turned the band down – but their own self-belief made them stars almost instantly.
