Sleep Token’s ‘Take Me Back To Eden’ was the most-streamed metal album of 2023 on Spotify

With a past track record of savvy marketing skills, the mysteriousness of the band members themselves, and two previously-heralded full-length albums (as well as a couple EPs), it’s actually not that much of a surprise that the genre-blurring Sleep Token had a huge 2023. Armed with some of the most convincing songs of their career, it might be a wonder how it didn’t happen a little sooner.

At the beginning of 2023, though, something amazing happened. While Sleep Token was hovering somewhere around the 300k monthly listener mark on Spotify, they quickly began 2023 with the album rollout for what would become Take Me Back To Eden. The first two singles, “Chokehold” and “The Summoning”, both went nuclear on streaming services – and even made an impact on the Billboard and UK charts. Since then, they’ve seen their fanbase grow exponentially (expanding to an audience in which some wouldn’t traditionally listen to a lot of metal), and they’re now at a staggering 3.136 million monthly listeners on Spotify as of the date of this publication.

Now, it’s been revealed that Take Me Back To Eden’s success was no mirage – it ended up being the most-streamed metal album on Spotify in 2023. With the caveat that Sleep Token’s younger demographic is more likely to stream music than older fanbases, Sleep Token’s third full-length even eclipsed Metallica’s 72 Seasons album, which is not a small feat at all.
