Reigning from Winston Salem, NC, this group of guys who call themselves Mountains and the Seas is the new big thing in the local scene for ambient worship rock music. Usually when you hear of that genre, you think more of David Crowder, Hillsong United, etc. These guys will be in those reigns soon enough.
Although ambient worship music may not be everyone’s first choice of music, these guys are tearing it up. When “Create In Me” dropped, it instantly made an impact on my views on that genre. I’ve listened to the song many, many times hoping I could find something to critique, but I have yet to run across a single flaw in this song. The vocals (Eli Boyes) are phenomenal, the guitars (Eli Boyes, Sly Accettullo, Evan Foster) are very good and very well written, the drums (Nolan Smith) are very well played, and not overpowering which is good to hear, and the bass (Josh Stone) is excellent. The bass is actually my favorite part of the song. Usually, bass is very quiet, not many people can hear it, and it doesn’t really do it’s job of piecing the song together. In this case, the bass was loud but not too loud, and really did a fantastic job of really piecing this song together.
All in all, what I’m trying to say, is that Mountains and the Seas will be big, and get there fairly quickly.
Overall rating – 5/5
