Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Dwight Clark, who was responsible for one of the NFL’s biggest moments of all time with “The Catch” that propelled the nascent 49ers team to their first Super Bowl appearance (and subsequent victory), has passed away at age 61 after battling ALS. First reported by ESPN and multiple other outlets, Clark racked up over 500 receptions and 6,750 receiving yards in career, which began in 1979 as a tenth round pick of the 49ers – he never left the team until his retirement in 1987, and served as a major target for the developing Joe Montana in his ascent to superstardom. Below, you can view video of the iconic moment in NFL history that Clark took part in, and is a snapshot of the way he lived – with power and grace.
