Post-hardcore band Dead Lakes release new EP, “Nothing Is Sacred”

After impressively racking up tens of thousands of streams for their first few singles, post-hardcore newcomers Dead Lakes have released their long-awaited debut EP, Nothing Is Sacred. Buoyed by the hook-filled opener “Eighteen Weeks”, this is an impressively talented band that delivers modern post-hardcore with flair and the unique vocals of Sumner Peterson.

If there’s one band they bear a similarity to, it’s newer Capsize. That’s a huge compliment, considering how that band evolved from their debut into 2016’s A Reintroduction…. And seriously, it’s only $2. Probably the best value you’ll get for music all week.

The overall theme of the EP is realizing nothing is pure, or perfect, says vocalist, Sumner Peterson. I wrote the lyrics after I would come down with anxiety attacks. I never properly dealt with a lot of repressed emotions about growing up, and how similarly I felt in my young adulthood. The lyrics are a reflection of anyone who feels alone, even when surrounded by people. The record also touches on coming out of that dark place realizing that life has lots of chapters, and you can appreciate the path that life has taken you. Nothing is sacred, but something doesn’t have to be sacred to be beautiful.
