Mondays may suck for most people – it’s the start of most work weeks. The good news is, we’re here to bring you an occasional new series called Manic Mondays, where we bring you 9 albums that are basically guaranteed to get you through the day, all in concise bullet point format. They say that music cures many things – maybe these albums will help keep you sane, too.
Basement (Promise Everything)
Basement’s 3rd full-length Promise Everything may not be quite as good as the rest of their catalogue, but honestly, I’m just happy to have the band back at all. There are some major Jimmy Eat World and early-2000’s alt-rock vibes on here, but a surprisingly interesting comparison is Cave In’s Antenna album. Full of spacey vibes and strong vocal hooks, Promise Everything is still a solid album worthy of your time.
While She Sleeps (Brainwashed)
Their upcoming release You Are We threatens to eclipse their previous work by a mile, but that’s a testament to how ridiculously good the Sheffield metal/rock/punk/whatevercore band are at creating exceptional music. The track “Your Evolution” contains some of the punchiest and most frantic music of the band’s career so far. How do they keep getting better, though?
Ocean Grove (The Rhapsody Tapes)
“Mr. Centipede” has the best chorus in any song I’ve heard so far in 2017. Ocean Grove are killing it right now.
Third Eye Blind (Third Eye Blind)
Basically every major pop-punk band of the last 15 years takes songwriting cues from this immaculate album. It is timeless.
Funeral For A Friend (Conduit)
The album where Funeral For A Friend went all melodic hardcore on us, twisting around their signature sound in a way that rivals even the mighty Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation.
Mineral (EndSerenading)
Real emo hours.
Sunny Day Real Estate (Diary)
Real emo hours, part II. This album was straight revolutionary in 1994, though. A lot of bands simply wouldn’t exist without it. All hail Jeremy Enigk.
Deftones (Diamond Eyes)
Diamond Eyes rivals the near-untouchable White Pony as Deftones’ finest moment. Our rocket’s taking off tonight…
Create To Inspire (Home Is Where My Heart Dies)
CTI create melodic hardcore/post-hardcore that is equally punchy and emotional. Coming off a paid of successful EP’s, Create To Inspire is releasing their debut full-length Sickness in late May, but last year’s Home Is Where My Heart Dies is one of the better EP’s you’ll find in the genre.
