Having recently seen new single “Friendly Fire” (culled from the OML recording sessions) easily reach #1 at Alternative radio, Linkin Park is gearing up for even more unreleased music to see the light of day. This time, a song from the Minutes To Midnight era that LP once called one of their heaviest, is going to see official release on streaming services for the first time on April 12th. You probably knew that, though, but that’s not all!
Originally released on Linkin Park Underground 6.0, “QWERTY” is often considered one of Linkin Park’s most famous non-album songs. Recorded during the Minutes To Midnight recording sessions, the song was never given a wider release even as a B-side, despite its popularity. However, it did appear on many incorrect leaks of MTM on file-sharing services at the time, so if you downloaded the album via LimeWire or BitTorrent back in the day, you’re likely to have heard it.
Notably, the song release is being paired with the YouTube premiere of BEHIND THE SONG: QWERTY, where it appears possible that unreleased footage from those recording sessions may actually see the light of day (instead of a light that never comes). It’s really quite unfortunate that “QWERTY” didn’t make the final cut for Minutes To Midnight, because it taps into their primal alternative metal roots, and has much more of an edge than anything else on the record.
