I had the opportunity to talk to Kellii Scott of the American rock band, Failure, who finally reunited after being on an extensive “recess” since 1997! Check it out to see what he had to say about their separation, their reunion, what happened in between, and what can be expected of their future!

In case you haven’t checked it out already, here is their latest release!

You’re on the road for the first time since 1997, how has the response been?

It has been fantastic. The enthusiasm is so over the top. each show has really been a pinch me am I dreaming moment. The best

How has the break affected your fan base?

Well frankly our audience is bigger and I think much more diverse than ever. Surprisingly they are a lot of younger fans that have been turned onto our music over the years

What were you guys up to during your hiatus?

Ken had a few bands and solo records. He also produced, engineered and mixed quite a few bands and records. Greg has primarily worked on Autolux all these years. And I was in a few bands but for the most part did a lot of session work with a laundry list of bands and artists

How long were you contemplating joining forces with your bandmates again before finally making it happen?

well I know Ken and Greg had talked about getting together and working on new music but not necessarily as Failure. Then shortly after that there was a proverbial head scratch and a decision to work on new Failure material. I believe Ken called me a few songs later and gave me the run down on this development and ended with we have a couple songs finished and a few almost finished. So from that point to actually recording some drums on the new stuff was probably 2 or 3 weeks..

How was getting back together with your old bandmates?

Very interesting. There were a lot of emotions and in the most unexpected way like it was like we had never been apart. So easy and fun and working together has never been better.

You’ve stated that you don’t want to just be a “nostalgia act,” so you’re planning on recording another album. Do you have any more details on that yet?

I think we feel that way about getting back together because the way we called it quits years ago left a lot of unfinished business. Our intention was to pick up where we left off and finish what we started back then. So it was more like a extended recess. Our plan now the tour is finishing up is to continue writing and recording a full length record.

What can we expect from your future release?

I think the another record that pushes us beyond our last record. Thats always been the goal. To raise the bar and work on material that we find compelling and challenging.

You have been confirmed to play the Fun Fun Fun Fest, are there any other festivals you’re planning on doing?

Yes we are doing FUN FUN FUN. We are also playing 2 of the Riotfest’s, Chicago and Denver

Who are you most excited to see at Fun Fun Fun Fest?

FAILURE… Im actually not sure who else is playing with us yet..

What are some tour habits you guys can’t break? Any traditions you’ve kept from before?

Ive picked up a few new ones. I bring my juicer and make juggs of juice each day for everyone. On this particular tour we’ve been writing and recording pretty often. We also have little pow wows about the shows and how we can improve them from night to night. We laugh a lot..We’ve all learned how to have the best time ever while remaining pretty serious about bringing the best performance to people each night..

Thank you guys for taking some time to talk to us! Anything else you would like to say?

Thank you to everyone who stuck with us all these years. It really has been the time of our lives

A special thanks to Kellii Scott for taking the time to talk to us as well as the rest of the band!
