In The Spotlight: My Epic unleash captivating new EP, “Ultraviolet”

Part 1 of a two-part EP (the latter half due out later this year), My Epic’s newest EP, Ultraviolet, is an exercise in atmosphere and buildup that cements the talented band as one that fans of rock need to keep on their radars. Ultraviolet is a genuinely exciting, though short, EP that doesn’t fail to deliver exciting and genuinely emotional moments.

Comparisons to bands like From Indian Lakes and maybe even the sadly disbanded HRVRD might suffice here, especially the huge dream pop influence on opener “Of Wilderness”. My Epic immediately deliver a song that hits straight to the heart, so to speak. 3rd track “So Be It” is a post-rock influenced track that is awash with subtle, tasteful electronics and experimental songwriting that departs from a typical verse-chorus-verse song structure.

Ultraviolet has zero weak tracks. While it’s tough to critically evaluate the EP knowing that there’s a companion piece to it, My Epic continue to prove themselves as one of the most thought-provoking and interesting rock bands going right now. While the EP removes almost all sense of heaviness from the equation, when the end result is a product this gripping, who’s complaining?
