At only 9 songs, Grayscale’s debut full-length feels a bit short. But that’s where the complaints end, and the praise begins. The album, which drops in a few weeks, feels nothing short of anthemic and memorable. In a crowded genre, Grayscale clearly stands out by creating music with both clear hooks and direct lyrics that are sure to be a hit with almost anyone. Like good storytelling and relatable lyrics? Like your pop-punk with a sharp alternative rock edge? Grayscale is definitely your new favorite band.
The best track here is clearly “Midwest” – it’s an infectious number that brings to mind the songs I used to listen to when coming home from high school. There’s a reason why bands like The Starting Line and Transit are still stuck in my head years after discovering them, and given that I’ve listened to “Midwest” 20 times or more since writing this post, that should be enough notice to check out Grayscale.
Stream their new song, “Palette”, below, and be sure to preorder the new album when it drops in February.
