On a day where Bandcamp is waiving their usual fee for artists, there’s never been a better time to pick up some music on the platform. Of course, there’s plenty of awesome new records out today – the new o’Brother and Boston Manor records in particular – but one band with a storied discography is specifically one we want to highlight today.
We’re talking, of course, about Irish post-rock band God Is An Astronaut. Having released 8 full-length albums and an EP since their inception in 2002, the veteran band have gone from strength to strength as far as songwriting and music goes. Their 2005 album, All Is Violent, All Is Bright, is a great place to start if you’re looking to dive into their discography a bit deeper – or you’re a newcomer to the post-rock genre. And there’s no better day to do so than today, as Bandcamp’s artist fees are completely waived all day Friday.
Of course, that’s not the band’s only notable album. 2018’s Epitaph was a harrowing reminder about the fragility of life on Earth, while previous records like Far From Refuge and Origins were also notable additions to their sizable catalogue. Suffice it to say that if you’re looking for music to make you feel like you’re floating in space, God Is An Astronaut is that band for you. At least we think so.
