The Mandalorian is one of the biggest Star Wars spinoffs, to be sure. An immediate success right away, it spawned a plethora of hilarious Baby Yoda memes – but it’s also been a critical success as well.
Gina Carano, who plays Cara Dune in the show, played a prominent role – emphasis on past tense. The actress and MMA fighter has now been removed from her role in The Mandalorian – and any other Lucasfilm production.
As Screenrant notes, the actress “made transphobic jokes, repeatedly doubted the effectiveness of masks during COVID-19, and shared voter fraud conspiracies following the 2020 Presidential Election. Carano continued to make controversial posts, including recent ones about Jeffrey Epstein and the Holocaust.”
No doubt, this put her on thin ice, and it forced Lucssfilm to make a move, stating:
Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.
