Massachusetts-based metal outfit Devitalized have unleashed their highly anticipated debut album, State of Aggression. This release is a ferocious amalgamation of deathcore and metalcore, crammed with mosh-inducing breakdowns and blistering vocal performances.
The album comprises eight relentless tracks, including the hit singles “Welcome Back” and “Godslayer.” The latter features a guest appearance from deathcore luminary Tom Barber, known for his work with Chelsea Grin and Darko US. Fans are also treated to an official music video for “Flesh Pit”, available on the band’s YouTube channel. The violent energy of the song is perfectly matched by the graphic nature of the video: “Come back / Let’s chat / My eyes are set on you… / Bodies rot / Buried alive / A stench of death / No life in sight.”
Vocalist John-Paul Ratta shares the emotional journey behind the album, stating “State of Aggression is an album I’ve been writing in my notes app for three years. When we finally came together to make this, I felt the weight off my chest. I realized no matter what struggles I had to deal with, I can get back up and be better, and I finally get to do it with the dudes I love!”
Bassist Tommy Jones Jr. appreciates the genre-blending nature of the album, saying, “Overall, what I like about State of Aggression is that it’s not quite considered deathcore, nor hardcore, nor metalcore. It’s just everything, all the time, and that’s what I think Devitalized will be known for.” Guitarist Dawson Medeiros adds, “State of Aggression is a demonstration of what we’re capable of as a group. We got into a room, locked in, and wrote a killer album.”
In celebration of the release, Devitalized will co-headline Hardcore in the Heat at the Worcester Palladium on June 7th. They will be performing alongside Nailed Shut, Slamwich, In Shallows, and No Allegiance. Tickets are available now.
