Having recently released their most recent record Ohms in 2020, there’s obviously no huge rush for new music from Deftones. Chino is busy with the new Crosses EP that just dropped, families, etc. However, the band has apparently been working on new music – or at least “chipping away” at it, according to the band. Now, while this probably isn’t a reference to the Pokemon move of the same name, it’s good news nonetheless.
In a new interview with Noise11.com (helpfully transcribed by Blabbermouth), Chino Moreno revealed what Deftones have been up to lately, saying:
“We’re just chipping away on some new music — those [other] guys are, at least, at the moment. We have some sporadic shows over the next couple of years, or a year or so, whatever. But for the most part, yeah, we’re just kind of winding down and taking some time off, for the most part.”
You can also watch that interview below. Deftones just finished playing their Dia de los Deftones festival in November, and are already announcing worldwide tour dates throughout 2023, so it’s probably only a matter of time until new music surfaces. Next year, perhaps?
